Cake controversy takes new turn; FIR against Rijiju, Mein & Chai

ITANAGAR, Sep 7: The cake controversy took a new turn on Thursday after one Bem Maching filed an FIR against Union Minister for Home, Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Art & Culture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai, for allegedly disrespecting, dishonouring and disfiguring the Indian flag, Indian map and national flower.
In an FIR registered at the Naharlagun Police Station, the complainant claimed that the legislators disrespected the nation when they cut into a cake with the national flag, map and flower decorated over it.
“Their act of insult to the tricolour, national flower and Indian map is a big blow to the unity of India and erodes the sense of patriotism”, the FIR read.
Saying that no one is above the Constitution or law, the complainant urged the police to register a case under the provisions of ‘Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper use) Act, 1950 or in any other prevailing act, which deals with the protection of national sanctity and unity of India.
