The Karnataka election has thrown up fractured mandate paving way for all kind of dirty politics. After the fractured verdict hectic activities by BJP, Congress and JD(S) are on to form Government. Both BJP and Congress-JD(S) combine have claimed right to form the next government and meet Governor with their respective supporters. Though BJP is single largest party it fell short of majority. On the other hand Congress-JD (S) combine has the required number and has every right to stake claim. There is lot of suspense over next move of the Governor Vajubhai Vala. The ball is in his court now. Governor is a veteran leader of BJP and hails from the state of Gujarat.
Therefore naturally his every action will be dissected by the opposition camp and constitutional experts. Congress party has already made it clear that party will approach the Supreme Court if the Governor decides in favour of the BJP. Right now BJP is well short of majority and if Governor calls them to form government it will lead to horse trading. Already both Congress and JD (S) have alleged that BJP leaders are trying to lure their MLAs with offer of cash and ministerial berth. The delay on the part of Governor is giving enough time to all parties to indulge in horse trading. It is unfortunate that people’s will is not respected and MLAs are being allowed to buy like commodities. The Karnataka governor has big responsibilities of safeguarding the constitution of nation. Whole country will be watching his every move. Can he rise above party affiliation and work in the best interest of nation?
