State shamed

The land compensation issue under Lower Subansiri district is getting murkier with each passing days. Allegations and counter allegations are flying thick and fast. Former deputy commissioner of Lower Subansiri district Kemo Lollen during whose tenure the controversy erupted has now alleged that his and his family’s life are under threat from Yachuli MLA Likha Saaya. This is a deeply disturbing allegation. He made the matter public by writing to the Chief Secretary to seek protection. This comes just days section of public of Yachuli constituency alleged former DC Kemo Lollen and DLRSO Bharat Lingu of indulging in corrupt practice while distributing compensation money to those being affected by the construction of Joram-Koloriang and Potin-Bopi stretches of highway.
There is urgent need for thorough investigation into the whole controversies. Though state government has constituted a fact finding enquiry committee headed by a senior IAS officer, considering the serious nature of case, the government should contemplate to hand over case to central agencies for fair investigation. If not by the CBI, it should be investigated either by retired high court or Supreme Court judge. Strong punishment should be given to those involved in compensation scandal. The whole controversy has put huge question mark on the future of two major highway projects. Also it has brought shame to whole state. Govt of India will not be happy with the controversy surrounding the road projects.
