EC should act tough

The issue of bogus voters has become matter of serious concern for the people of state. Just days after, a group named Illegal Voter Enrollment Clean Drive Committee (IVECDC) of Yachuli made serious allegation of enrollment of thousands of bogus voters in Yachuli assembly constituency under Lower Subansiri district, now similar kind of allegation has emerged from Kurung Kumey district. The 21 Koloriang Assembly Constituency Native People’s Forum (21-KACNPF) on Saturday alleged that many illegal voters been enrolled in the Koloriang assembly constituency. The allegation leveled by IVECDC, Yachuli and 21-KACNPF are very serious in nature.
This has potential to cause damage to the electoral process. In democracy the election process plays very important role. It provides platform to the public to elect leaders of their choice. Therefore if such an important democratic process is manipulated using bogus voters then the very essence of democracy is at threat. The election commission (EC) should take note of the allegation and properly investigate the whole matter. Strong action should be initiated against those who are involved in such illegal practice. Especially if any government officials are found involved, the commission should punish them. They are supposed to be the guardian of constitution and any kind of illegal activities by them should not be tolerated. Also the people of state should remain alert and immediately report to the election commission if they are aware of enrollment of bogus voters. Let electoral process remain clean, so that voters have the choice to elect candidates of their choice.
