Attempts to polarize voters

The horrific killing of a police officer at Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh allegedly by cow vigilantes has shocked the whole nation. Police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed on December 3 when he was caught in the centre of a major violence. The violence broke out after locals alleged that cow slaughter took place in the area. Increasingly now it looks like inspector Subodh Kumar Singh paid the price for being an upright and honest officer. He was investigating the mob killing of Mohammad Akhlaq at Dadri in 2015 and was the constant target of the right wing groups. Four of the 27 accused in the incident have so far been arrested.
However, the main accused — Bajrang Dal member Yogesh Raj — is still on the run. Unfortunately instead of fast-tracking murder case of inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, the UP police are prioritizing the cow slaughter case. This kind of incident will only emboldened the religious zealots and cause more chaos in the country. Even when his state was burning, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was busy campaigning for assembly election in Telangana and Rajasthan. It is simply unacceptable and is classic case of misplaced priorities. For any CM the safety and security of his/her citizens should be of utmost importance than an election campaign. As the 2019 general election nears efforts are being made especially in cow belt to polarize the election. The saffron brigade is unleashing all sorts of religious hatred targeting minority communities to polarize the voters. But in the midst of all this Abhishek Singh, the son of late inspector Subodh Kumar Singh on Wednesday put out a strong appeal against “mob culture” and “Hindu-Muslim” violence. The young son of a brave police officer has exhibited lot of maturity and it is person like him who still holds the idea of a secular India together.
