ITANAGAR, Apr 3: General observer (GO) Manoj Kr Deka held a meeting with the candidates and election agents for the Itanagar, Doimukh and Sagalee assembly constituencies on Wednesday and informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is very strict on the model code of conduct, and that serious action would be taken against violators.
Speaking to the candidates and their election agents at Banquet Hall here, Deka asked them to maintain decorum and to follow the instructions of the ECI to ensure free and fair elections.
The GO also asked them to train their polling agents properly on EVMs, VVPATs, mock polls and other important election processes, so that there are no doubts during poll day.
Informing that adequate security arrangements would be made during poll day, he urged the candidates to take vehicle permissions from the DEO for vehicles being used for election purposes.
He advised them to discourage money culture, and encouraged voters to exercise their franchise in free and fair manner and deposit their arms and ammunitions at the nearest police stations.
Papum Pare DC Dr Joram Beda was also present.
MLA candidates for Itanagar – Techi Kaso of the JD (U) and Techi Tolu Tara of the NPP – besides the election agents of other contesting candidates attended the meeting. (DIPRO)
