Security beefed up in Mizoram for Independence Day

Aizawl, Aug 14 (PTI) Elaborate security arrangements were made and police patrolling intensified ahead of the 73rd Independence Day celebrations in Mizoram, a senior police official said on Wednesday.
Police stations in the city were asked to enhance security for the vital installations, Aizawl district Superintendent of Police C. Lalzahngoa told PTI.
He said armed police were deployed for a round-the- clock security at the Assam Rifles ground, where Chief Minister Zoramthanga would address the people on the occasion.
Security was beefed up at the lone Lengpui Airport near Aizawl, he said adding entry into the terminal was restricted and only air-ticket holders had been allowed.
Lalzahngoa, however, said that “no extra-precautionary measures” were made in view of the Centre abrogating the constitutional provisions that accorded a special status to Jammu and Kashmir and some north east insurgent groups’ call to boycott the Independence Day celebrations.
