A praiseworthy move

The move of the alumni of the government higher secondary school (GHSS) Daporijo to hire six teachers for the school in order to meet the shortage of teachers is praiseworthy. The GHSS Daporijo is reportedly facing acute shortage of subject teachers and this has directly affected the performance of the students. The salaries will be paid to the teachers by the association from the amount contributed voluntarily by the alumni. It is very encouraging to see the alumni taking keen interest in the functioning of the school that shaped their lives.
The majority of people in Arunachal Pradesh have been educated from the government funded schools. Unfortunately most of these schools are today struggling to function. The deteriorating condition of school infrastructures along with lack of teachers has damaged the reputation of the government schools. The parents are reluctant to send their wards to the government schools and mostly prefer private schools. The time has come for the alumni of other schools to emulate the works of the alumni association of GHSS Daporijo. The alumni should pay back to their former schools. Instead of wasting time in pinning hope on the government, wherever possible, the alumni should chip in and make effort to bring change in their former schools.
