Nat’l conference begins to mark AIR Day

NEW DELHI, Feb 13: A two-day National Conference of Regional News Units of News Services Division (NSD), All India Radio (AIR), began here on Thursday to commemorate World Radio Day.
On the first day, topics related to best practices and new initiatives of RNUs, and operationalization of 24×7 AIR FM Gold news channels were discussed. The participants shared inputs to bring about better functioning of the RNUs, besides making presentations on operationalization of FM news channels.
Bureau of Outreach and Communication DG, Satyendra Prakash, said the services of the regional outreach bureaus and the field outreach bureaus “can be utilized for getting voices from people, even in the remotest parts of the country,” while DD News DG, Mayank Kumar Agrawal, said steps will be taken “for better synergy and development of a common news pool for both DD News & AIR.”
PIB Principal DG, KS Dhatwalia, said “synergy of PIB, AIR & DD News should be utilized for better dissemination of news in every part of the country.”
Samir Kumar from Prasar Bharti and senior journalists from Hindustan Samachar also spoke.
Earlier, AIR (News Services Division) Principal Director General, Ira Joshi, said the AIR’s news division has started several new initiatives in the last two years, “which has made radio an important source of information.” She said the news division will soon start four new 24×7 FM Gold news and current affairs channels in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
Additional Director Generals, Akash Laxman, Atul Tiwari, and JP Mattu Singh also spoke.
