{"id":133733,"date":"2020-08-04T02:13:27","date_gmt":"2020-08-03T20:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=133733"},"modified":"2020-08-04T02:13:27","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T20:43:27","slug":"documentary-on-bird-conservation-by-arunachal-tribe-earns-nominations-at-paris-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2020\/08\/04\/documentary-on-bird-conservation-by-arunachal-tribe-earns-nominations-at-paris-film-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Documentary on bird conservation by Arunachal tribe earns nominations at Paris film festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ITANAGAR, Aug 3:<\/strong> A 29-minute documentary on conservation of a rare bird species by a tribal community in Arunachal has earned two nominations at an environmental film festival to be held in Paris in December.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The movie, Wildlife Our Lifeblood, directed and produced by politician-turned-filmmaker Naresh Glow, has been nominated in the best film and best director categories at the 15th International Wildlife Conservation Documentary Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Besides, the film has also been selected for screening at the 13th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest (KLEFF), 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;This is the only Indian documentary nominated in the Paris film festival and one of the three movies from the country to be screened in the Kuala Lumpur event,&#8221; Glow told PTI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said this is his second documentary featuring the contributions of the Bugun tribe to wildlife conservation by setting up a community reserve in Singchung village in Tenga valley of West Kameng district.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve, spread over a 17 sq-km area, abuts the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, a home to the Bugun liocichla bird,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bird species is classified as &#8216;critically endangered&#8217; by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Glow, a three-time MLA from the Thrizino-Buragaon assembly segment, claimed that the bird is found only in Arunachal and the size of its population is small.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Bugun liocichla was first spotted here by naturalist Ramana Athreya in 1995, he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The bird derives its name from the Bugun community, and efforts are on to protect it. I decided to make this film highlighting their conservation practice,&#8221; Glow, one of the founders of the community reserve, said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 15th edition of the International Wildlife Conservation Documentary Film Festival will be held from 1-7 December at Caf de la Gare in Paris.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The KLEFF will be screening 53 films on its digital screening platform, Glow said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It will be held from 8 to 11 October.
