{"id":178586,"date":"2021-12-06T02:07:12","date_gmt":"2021-12-05T20:37:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=178586"},"modified":"2021-12-06T02:07:12","modified_gmt":"2021-12-05T20:37:12","slug":"dcm-calls-for-promoting-indigenous-games-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2021\/12\/06\/dcm-calls-for-promoting-indigenous-games-sports\/","title":{"rendered":"DCM calls for promoting indigenous games &#038; sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ITANAGAR, 5 Dec:<\/strong> Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called for popularizing and promoting the state&#8217;s indigenous games and sports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Our communities have many indigenous games and sports, and efforts should be made to popularize and promote them,&#8221; he said, attending the closing ceremony of the State Level Tug of War Championship, organized by the Arunachal Tug of War Association, at the Nyokum Lapang ground here on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DCM, who was accompanied by Indigenous Faith &amp; Cultural Affairs Minister Taba Tedir, assured that the state government would support promotion of &#8220;individual as well as team indigenous games and sports of the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Urging the youths to avail the &#8220;priority and platforms&#8221; being provided by the state government, he exuded hope that &#8220;the days will come when the sportsman from the state will also participate in Commonwealth and Olympic Games and win medals for the state and the nation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tedir, who is also the president of the Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA), said that the state has 40 sports associations registered under the AOA, &#8220;and amongst them, Arunachal Tug of War Association (ATWA) is the youngest one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He assured to extend the AOA&#8217;s full support to the ATWA, and asked the association to prepare a calendar of events for tug-of-war.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While lauding the government for giving priority to games and sports, he requested the DCM to &#8220;provide certain fund annually for the AOA to carry out the games and sports events smoothly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tug of War Federation of India president Hari Shanker Gupta and ATWA president Nili Likha Kamin also spoke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thirty-eight teams from 12 districts participated in the championship for senior boys and girls, juniors (U-19) and open categories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The gold medal in the senior boys&#8217; category was won by Tawang, while East Kameng won the gold in the junior boys&#8217; (U-19) category, and Papum Pare won the gold medals in the senior girls&#8217; and the mixed categories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among others, Hydropower Development Corporation Chairman Toko Onuj and Power EE Phurpa Tsering were also present.
