{"id":179151,"date":"2021-12-13T00:29:02","date_gmt":"2021-12-12T18:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=179151"},"modified":"2021-12-13T00:29:02","modified_gmt":"2021-12-12T18:59:02","slug":"french-skier-noel-opens-slalom-season-with-dominating-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2021\/12\/13\/french-skier-noel-opens-slalom-season-with-dominating-win\/","title":{"rendered":"French skier No\u00ebl opens slalom season with dominating win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">VAL d\u2019IS\u00c8RE, France , Dec 12 (AP) \u2014 French skier Cl\u00e9ment No\u00ebl dominated the first slalom of the World Cup season Sunday for his ninth career win as many other pre-race favourites faltered, including his teammate and defending overall champion, Alexis Pinturault.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No\u00ebl defied challenging course conditions on the Face de Bellevarde as he posted the fastest time in both runs, finishing 1.40 seconds ahead of Kristoffer Jakobsen for the Swedish skier\u2019s first career podium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Filip Zubcic of Croatia was 1.85 behind in third.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s amazing. Winning at home is something really different,\u201d said No\u00ebl, who used to live in Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI already won in France but now it\u2019s in Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re. I know so many people here, so it\u2019s quite an emotional win,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While No\u00ebl skied a technically near-perfect first run, he called the second \u201ca big fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt was an incredible day. This race was perfect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No\u00ebl finished runner-up in the slalom standings in each of the past three seasons. He was the 2018 junior world champion, but has failed to win a medal at the World Championships or Olympics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s the best way to start the new season,\u201d No\u00ebl said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor the first race, no one knows if we are fast or not fast, and the real truth is the race. So today I know that I can be fast and I have so much confidence for the future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alex Vinatzer, who trailed No\u00ebl by just .12 after the opening run, was disqualified in the second after the Italian lost his balance at the end of his run and passed the final gate on the wrong side.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Slalom world champion Sebastian Foss-Solev\u00e5g of Norway dropped from third to sixth position after he caught a bump and nearly skied out early in his second run.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pinturault, a two-time winner of the event, went out after the first run.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Frenchman was already a second off No\u00ebl\u2019s time at the second check point of his opening run and lost additional time on a tricky passage near the bottom of the course to finish 2.90 behind, failing to make it into the top 30 who qualify for a second run.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marco Schwarz, who won the slalom season title last year, also failed to qualify for the second run. Having missed weeks of training due to an ankle injury, the Austrian was 2.53 off the lead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Austrian skier Adrian Pertl, last season\u2019s World Championships silver medalist in slalom, missed the race a day after he injured his right knee in a giant slalom.
