ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (AP) \u2014 Pakistan\u2019s foreign ministry on Friday said authorities were trying to trace and arrest suspects who this week desecrated a Hindu temple located at a home in the country\u2019s port city of Karachi, drawing condemnation from New Delhi.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the ministry said that investigations were still underway, and those who attacked the temple Wednesday before fleeing the scene \u201cwill not escape justice and the government will deal with them with the full force of law.\u201d<\/p>\n
The assurance from the ministry came a day after New Delhi condemned the incident.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson at India\u2019s External Affairs Ministry, on Thursday expressed concern over the vandalization of the temple, saying it was \u201canother act in the systematic persecution of religious minorities\u201d in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
However, Pakistan\u2019s foreign ministry rejected Bagchi\u2019s allegation of systematic persecution, instead saying such violence was taking place against minority Muslims in India.<\/p>\n
Anger has been growing in Pakistan against India since last week when two spokespeople for India\u2019s Bharatiya Janata Party made comments seen as insulting to Islam\u2019s prophet and his wife Aisha. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s party suspended one official and expelled the other, saying it rejects the insulting of religious figures.<\/p>\n
\nOn Friday, thousands of Islamists were gathering in Lahore and Karachi to protest the comments.<\/p>\n
Pakistan and India have a history of bitter relations. Since they gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947, the nuclear-armed nations have fought two of their three wars over the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, split between them but claimed by both in its entirety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
