{"id":197394,"date":"2022-08-07T01:42:33","date_gmt":"2022-08-06T20:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=197394"},"modified":"2022-08-07T01:42:33","modified_gmt":"2022-08-06T20:12:33","slug":"misra-advocates-preserving-traditional-loin-loom-weaving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2022\/08\/07\/misra-advocates-preserving-traditional-loin-loom-weaving\/","title":{"rendered":"Misra advocates preserving traditional loin loom weaving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ITANAGAR, 6 Aug:<\/strong> Governor BD Mishra&#8217;s wife Neelam Misra on Saturday urged the people, especially the women of the state, to preserve and promote traditional loin loom weaving &#8220;to mark the cultural heritage of the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She was addressing the gathering at the curtain raiser of a fashion show organised by the textile &amp; handicrafts department at the DK Convention Centre here to mark the 8th National Handloom Day celebration and commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stating that &#8220;loin loom weaving is one of the oldest indigenous artisan skills, or more appropriately a legacy passed down, generation after generation, to the womenfolk of the state,&#8221; Misra said that &#8220;we must, in the public interest, revive it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She said that &#8220;traditional attires and loin loom weaving should give pride to our young sisters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;It should become a fashion amongst the contemporary dress circles to claim that they are supporting and actively participating in our traditional weaving culture,&#8221; Misra added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Emphasising on &#8220;khadi for fashion,&#8221; she said that &#8220;fashion fusion of old and new will be a trendsetter and facilitate in taking our traditional weaving items from local to global.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She also stressed on &#8220;linking SHGs with the market to support women empowerment and self-reliance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Textile &amp; Handicrafts Director Haj Dodung and Sericulture Director Barnali Sur also spoke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Models from &#8216;Miss Arunachal Team&#8217; walked the ramp, displaying loin loom attires designed and weaved by Misra and others, during the show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Members of SHGs also presented their collection at the fashion show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The textile &amp; handicrafts department showcased the traditional attires of different tribes, while the sericulture department presented &#8216;ahimsa silk&#8217; apparels.
