ITANAGAR, 6 Aug:<\/strong> Governor BD Mishra’s wife Neelam Misra on Saturday urged the people, especially the women of the state, to preserve and promote traditional loin loom weaving “to mark the cultural heritage of the state.”<\/p>\n She was addressing the gathering at the curtain raiser of a fashion show organised by the textile & handicrafts department at the DK Convention Centre here to mark the 8th National Handloom Day celebration and commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.<\/p>\n Stating that “loin loom weaving is one of the oldest indigenous artisan skills, or more appropriately a legacy passed down, generation after generation, to the womenfolk of the state,” Misra said that “we must, in the public interest, revive it.”<\/p>\n She said that “traditional attires and loin loom weaving should give pride to our young sisters.”<\/p>\n “It should become a fashion amongst the contemporary dress circles to claim that they are supporting and actively participating in our traditional weaving culture,” Misra added.<\/p>\n Emphasising on “khadi for fashion,” she said that “fashion fusion of old and new will be a trendsetter and facilitate in taking our traditional weaving items from local to global.”<\/p>\n She also stressed on “linking SHGs with the market to support women empowerment and self-reliance.”<\/p>\n Textile & Handicrafts Director Haj Dodung and Sericulture Director Barnali Sur also spoke.<\/p>\n Models from ‘Miss Arunachal Team’ walked the ramp, displaying loin loom attires designed and weaved by Misra and others, during the show.<\/p>\n Members of SHGs also presented their collection at the fashion show.<\/p>\n The textile & handicrafts department showcased the traditional attires of different tribes, while the sericulture department presented ‘ahimsa silk’ apparels.
