{"id":201085,"date":"2022-09-22T00:47:22","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T19:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=201085"},"modified":"2022-09-22T00:47:22","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T19:17:22","slug":"isro-successfully-tests-hybrid-motor-eyes-new-propulsion-system-for-rockets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2022\/09\/22\/isro-successfully-tests-hybrid-motor-eyes-new-propulsion-system-for-rockets\/","title":{"rendered":"ISRO successfully tests hybrid motor,  eyes new propulsion system for rockets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bengaluru, 21 Sep: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully tested a hybrid motor, potentially paving the way for a new propulsion system for the forthcoming launch vehicles.<br \/>\nThe 30 kN hybrid motor tested at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday is scalable and stackable, the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency said.<br \/>\nThe test was supported by ISRO\u2019s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC).<br \/>\nThe motor used Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) as fuel and liquid oxygen (LOX) as the oxidiser.<br \/>\nUnlike solid-solid or liquid-liquid combinations, a hybrid motor uses solid fuel and liquid oxidiser, it was noted.<br \/>\n\u201cToday\u2019s (Tuesday\u2019s) test of a flight equivalent 30 kN hybrid motor demonstrated ignition and sustained combustion for the intended duration of 15 seconds. The motor performance was satisfactory\u201d, an ISRO statement said.<br \/>\nThe use of liquids facilitates throttling, and the control over the flow rate of LOX enables the re-start capability, it was explained.<br \/>\nWhile both HTPB and LOX are green, LOX is safer to handle, ISRO noted.<br \/>\n\u201cThe hybrid motor tested today (Tuesday) is scalable and stackable, potentially paving the way for a new propulsion system for the forthcoming launch vehicles\u201d, it said.
