{"id":205961,"date":"2022-12-01T00:24:45","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T18:54:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=205961"},"modified":"2022-12-01T00:24:45","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T18:54:45","slug":"south-korea-scrambles-jets-after-chinese-russian-warplanes-approach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2022\/12\/01\/south-korea-scrambles-jets-after-chinese-russian-warplanes-approach\/","title":{"rendered":"South Korea Scrambles Jets After Chinese, Russian Warplanes Approach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seoul, Nov 30 (AFP): South Korea&#8217;s military said it scrambled fighter jets Wednesday as six Russian and two Chinese warplanes entered its air defence zone without notice.<br \/>\nThe Chinese H-6 bombers repeatedly entered and exited the Korea Air Defence Identification Zone (KADIZ) near South Korea&#8217;s southern and northeast coasts early Wednesday, Seoul&#8217;s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hours later they returned to the zone from the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, accompanied by Russian warplanes including two Su-35 fighter jets and four TU-95 bombers, it added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The warplanes eventually all left the zone and did not violate South Korea&#8217;s airspace, Seoul said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An ADIZ is an area wider than a country&#8217;s airspace in which it tries to control aircraft for security reasons, but the concept is not defined in any international treaty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Our military deployed air force fighter jets even before Chinese and Russian aircraft entered the KADIZ to take tactical measures in case of contingency,&#8221; the JCS said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beijing and Moscow appeared to have &#8220;engaged in a combined air exercise&#8221;, Seoul&#8217;s Yonhap news agency reported, citing unnamed &#8220;observers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The incident comes as Washington pushes China, Pyongyang&#8217;s most important ally, to use its influence to help rein in North Korea, which has conducted a record-breaking blitz of missile launches this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chinese President Xi Jinping recently told Kim Jong Un that he was willing to work with the North Korean leader for &#8220;world peace&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pyongyang earlier this month fired an intercontinental ballistic missile in one of its most powerful tests yet, declaring it would meet perceived US nuclear threats with nukes of its own.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The United States has accused Beijing and Moscow of protecting Pyongyang from further punishment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two countries in May vetoed a US-led effort to tighten sanctions on North Korea in response to the North&#8217;s earlier missile launches.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seoul, Nov 30 (AFP): South Korea&#8217;s military said it scrambled fighter jets Wednesday as six Russian and two Chinese warplanes entered its air defence zone without notice.
