{"id":216629,"date":"2023-05-20T01:37:07","date_gmt":"2023-05-19T20:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=216629"},"modified":"2023-05-20T01:37:07","modified_gmt":"2023-05-19T20:07:07","slug":"apuapa-draconian-arbitrary-hrln","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2023\/05\/20\/apuapa-draconian-arbitrary-hrln\/","title":{"rendered":"APUAPA draconian, arbitrary: HRLN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ITANAGAR, 19 May:<\/strong> The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), Itanagar, in a press conference on Friday termed the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) &#8220;draconian and arbitrary in nature.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Human rights lawyer and anti-dam activist Ebo Mili said that a person detained under the APUAPA &#8220;cannot hire a lawyer to represent them,&#8221; and cited cases in which &#8220;people booked under the UAPA throughout the country are still not released,&#8221; and said that &#8220;there are no proper trials under this Act.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stating that the Act is &#8220;used as a tool for making political prisoners,&#8221; Mili said that, &#8220;under the APUAPA, there is no accountability and one cannot have a magisterial hearing but can constitute an advisory board wherein nobody is allowed &#8211; neither lawyers nor the public.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;When we already have good laws, we don&#8217;t need APUAPA.
