\nITANAGAR, Mar 9:<\/strong> The Women’s Cell of Dera Natung Govt College commemorated the International Women’s Day with enthralling dance performances by faculty members, students and an informative presentation on POCSO Act 2012 made by Taba Rosy Gongo, Project Coordinator, Department of Justice, Govt. of India.
\nSpeaking on the occasion Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia, Secretary Education, asserted that men and women should walk together and such programmes are incomplete without the participation of men.
\nIMC Councillor Taba Yal Nabam, who attended the programme stated that in many aspects women are much better than men. She stressed on 50% reservation for women in politics and also property rights for women. She advised the students to strive for academic excellence.
\nEarlier, Dr. NT Rikam, Principal, Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar had congratulated the women’s cell team for organising the programme in a befitting manner.
\nIn her keynote address, Lilly Tumbom Riba Jomoh, Convenor of the Cell highlighted the aim of the programme while elaborating Press for Progress, the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day.
\nAt Aalo: The International Women Day (IWD) was celebrated by the APWWS Aalo Unit with enthusiasm at Conference Hall of District Industries Centre on Thursday. The President APWWS Aalo Unit, Marbom Riba Bagra, outlined the history and significance of the day and called upon the women activists to come forward for the cause of women and child.
\nShe also highlighted the activities taken up by them in the district. The Resource person Gamde Padu, Prosecuting Officer and Gumter Ete Deka, retired Police Officer dwelt elaborately on sex education to girls, domestic violence and legal provisions under various section of laws. The DDI Marme Kato Loya and ZPM Higam Loyi Ango also gave fruitful suggestions as the resource persons on the day.
\nThe women speakers emphasized the need to start movements in interior areas to spread awareness. Songs and dances were also presented by the women representatives from various sectors.
\nThe chairman of district legal service authority, West and Lower Siang District organized a legal services camp in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society, Basar Unit and District Administration at Basar on the occasion of International Women Day.
\nThe focus of Legal Services Camp was on women empowerment, NALSA (Victims of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation) Scheme, 2015 and NALSA (Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights) Scheme, 2015. Special attraction of the camp was free health check-up and distribution of medicines by Medical Units of ITBP and Community Health Centre, Basar. Various govt departments distributed free items to the participants to mark IWD.
\nThey also distributed pamphlets and vouchers of various schemes to the public and created awareness of welfare schemes implemented through their department.
\nThe Deputy Commissioner, Lower Siang AK Singh, who was present on the occasion highlighted about 42 flagship programme of different department and requested the public to avail benefits under those programme.
\nThe legal services camp was attended by more than 1200 people.
\nAt Yingkiong: Women Welfare Society, Upper Siang unit celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm.
\nIn her speech, former ZPC Yaken Danggen spoke about the responsibilities of women in overall development of the society.
\nCDPO Pakkar Nomuk highlighted about women empowerment. He has also informed that there is a Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board in his department to deal with domestic violence, harassment of women in work place and rape cases etc. He exhorted the gathering to report such cases to them for appropriate action.
