{"id":218818,"date":"2023-06-21T00:21:18","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T18:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=218818"},"modified":"2023-06-21T00:21:18","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T18:51:18","slug":"sc-refuses-urgent-hearing-on-plea-seeking-army-protection-for-kuki-tribals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2023\/06\/21\/sc-refuses-urgent-hearing-on-plea-seeking-army-protection-for-kuki-tribals\/","title":{"rendered":"SC refuses urgent hearing on plea  seeking Army protection for Kuki tribals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NEW DELHI, 20 Jun: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused an urgent hearing on a plea seeking Army protection for minority Kuki tribals amid the ethnic violence in Manipur.<br \/>\nA vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and MM Sundresh said it is purely a law and order issue.<br \/>\nSenior advocate Colin Gonsalves mentioned the matter on behalf of NGO Manipur Tribal Forum (MTF).<br \/>\nSolicitor General Tushar Mehta said that security agencies are on the ground, and opposed the plea for urgent hearing.<br \/>\nThe top court posted the matter for hearing on 3 July.<br \/>\nThe MTF has alleged that the central government and the chief minister of Manipur have jointly embarked on a communal agenda aimed at &#8220;ethnic cleansing&#8221; of Kuki tribals in the state.<br \/>\nThe NGO urged the apex court not to rely on &#8220;empty assurances&#8221; given by the Centre and sought Army protection for Kuki tribals.<br \/>\nMore than 100 people have lost their lives in the violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur that broke out over a month ago.
