{"id":226230,"date":"2023-10-15T01:04:18","date_gmt":"2023-10-14T19:34:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=226230"},"modified":"2023-10-15T01:04:18","modified_gmt":"2023-10-14T19:34:18","slug":"ls-speaker-meets-eu-parliament-vp-protests-resolution-on-indias-internal-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2023\/10\/15\/ls-speaker-meets-eu-parliament-vp-protests-resolution-on-indias-internal-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"LS speaker meets EU Parliament VP, protests resolution on India&#8217;s &#8216;internal issues&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NEW DELHI, 14 Oct: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday lodged a strong protest with European Parliament Vice President Nicola Beer over its resolution on India&#8217;s &#8220;internal issues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Birla told the European Parliament vice president that every nation and Parliament is sovereign, and the internal issues of other countries should not be discussed by others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In July, the European Parliament had adopted a resolution, calling on the Indian government to act &#8220;promptly&#8221; to halt the violence in Manipur and protect religious minorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Birla underlined India&#8217;s sovereignty and protested against bringing a proposal in the European Parliament on India&#8217;s internal issues,&#8221; the Lok Sabha secretariat said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India had dubbed the July resolution &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; and &#8220;reflective of a colonial mindset.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Birla invited the European Parliament vice president to &#8220;witness the festival of democracy&#8221; during the Indian general elections scheduled for next year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beer congratulated Birla for a successful P20 summit and emphasised on closer relations of the European Parliament with India. She informed also that Europe is going through challenging times, and sought India&#8217;s cooperation.
