{"id":232238,"date":"2024-01-10T00:18:23","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T18:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=232238"},"modified":"2024-01-10T00:18:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T18:48:23","slug":"court-allows-newsclick-hr-head-to-turn-approver-in-uapa-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2024\/01\/10\/court-allows-newsclick-hr-head-to-turn-approver-in-uapa-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Court allows NewsClick HR head to turn approver in UAPA case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>NEW DELHI, 9 Jan:<\/strong> A Delhi court has allowed NewsClick&#8217;s human resources (HR) department chief Amit Chakravarty to turn an approver in the case lodged against the news portal under anti-terror law UAPA over allegations that it received money to spread pro-China propaganda, court sources said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Special Judge Hardeep Kaur pardoned Chakravarty, arrested in the case, on an application he moved recently, seeking the court&#8217;s permission to turn an approver &#8211; a move that could spell trouble for NewsClick&#8217;s Editor-in-Chief and founder Prabir Purkayastha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chakravarty also claimed that he is in possession of &#8220;material information&#8221; about the case which he is willing to disclose to the Delhi Police.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Special Cell of the Delhi Police had arrested Purkayastha and Chakravarty on 3 October last year and both of them are currently in judicial custody.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the FIR, a large amount of funds to the news portal came from China to &#8220;disrupt the sovereignty of India&#8221; and cause disaffection against the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It also alleged that Purkayastha conspired with a group &#8211; People&#8217;s Alliance for Democracy and Secularism &#8211; to sabotage the electoral process during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Raids were conducted at 88 locations in Delhi and seven in other states on 3 October on the suspects named in the FIR and those that surfaced in the analysis of data, police said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Around 300 electronic gadgets were also seized from the offices of NewsClick and the residences of the journalists who were examined.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following the raids, 46 individuals, including nine female journalists, were questioned by the Special Cell.
