{"id":233446,"date":"2024-01-28T01:44:57","date_gmt":"2024-01-27T20:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=233446"},"modified":"2024-01-28T01:44:57","modified_gmt":"2024-01-27T20:14:57","slug":"kshyat-sowai-festival-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2024\/01\/28\/kshyat-sowai-festival-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Kshyat Sowai festival underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>[ Prem Chetry ]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>BOMDILA, 27 Jan:<\/strong> Kshyat Sowai, a five-day festival of the Bugun tribe of Wanghoo and Dikhiyang villages, locally known as Rubao-Rujang of Hakhuang Dua, in\u00a0 Sinchung subdivision in West Kameng district, began on Thursday evening with traditional fervour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Literally, the word &#8216;kshyat&#8217; implies god, and &#8216;sowai&#8217; means celebration. The festival is dedicated to the mountain god, and is generally celebrated in the month of Rua, January.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tsering Norbu Murphew said, &#8220;Kshyat Sowai is our major festival, worshipping the mountain god, seeking blessings for optimum harvest, to avert natural calamities, and to ensure protection and wellbeing of the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The festival is led by the village priest, known as phabi, with his assistant samis, who stay in a common<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">house called kshyat hoan, while the villagers have to stay in their clan houses, called kshyat saphao hoan, during the festival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Men, women and children in traditional attire reach the festival spot in a procession led by the priests, and offerings are made to the mountain god for the wellbeing of the tribe&#8217;s members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ Prem Chetry ] BOMDILA, 27 Jan: Kshyat Sowai, a five-day festival of the Bugun tribe of Wanghoo and Dikhiyang villages, locally known as Rubao-Rujang of Hakhuang Dua, in\u00a0 Sinchung subdivision in West Kameng district, began on Thursday evening with traditional fervour.
