\nThat the saffronites would turn their gaze towards Gyanvapi is a natural corollary of the ‘supreme success’ of the Ayodhya project – illegal demolition of a mosque, members of the unruly mob to the leaders spearheading the ‘movement’ getting allowed to escape scot-free, ‘reward’ of that muscle-flexing through ‘green signal’ of building the temple of the epic hero right at the very spot of the demolished mosque, and finally the state apparatus directly participating in the consecration of the ‘dream project’, ie, Ram temple.
\nIf the Ayodhya project can attain such supreme success just by virtue of the ‘belief of Hindus’ (despite absolutely no proof of centuries-old Babri Masjid getting built upon any temple ruins) with a Congress government in New Delhi during that black day of 6 December, 1992, the Gyanvapi issue is merely a child’s play on the ‘strength’ of purported evidence of temple ruins below the Varanasi mosque (as claimed by the Archaeological Survey of India) and ‘blessings’ of the saffron government firmly placed at the Centre.
\nIf initiation of the Ayodhya project through riot-invoking rath yatra and the Babri demolition can promote a mere 2-MP party to the seat of central governance within just seven years, no prizes for guessing the guaranteed stupendous electoral gain to be achieved through the ‘successful completion'” of the Ram temple with immediate invocation of the Varanasi project through which zealous Hindutva, communalism and Islamophobia can be provided a further zealous boost.
\nAfter all, it has been proven that rabid hatred directed towards the ‘other’, religious muscle-flexing by making an absolute mockery of the constitutional values of secularism and all norms of law indeed ‘pay’ in this communally vitiated society.
\nNo wonder why the cold-blooded threat of ‘respectfully’ shifting the Gyanvapi mosque and handing over the site to the Hindus can be so chillingly issued. So much for the lip service of ‘restraint’ and ‘humility’ by the who’s who of the country, following the consecration of the temple. Never can ‘restraint’ and ‘humility’ flow like ‘nectar of love’ following any development which is scarred by hatred riots, communalism and crude muscle-flexing to display who are the masters of this land of diversities.
\nSince communalism will only beget communalism, divisive projects like Ayodhya can only ‘gift’ successive doses of Gyanvapi, Krishna Janmabhoomi, and more to follow.
\nWhat a scandalous assault upon the spirit of the Places of Worship (Special Provision) Act, 1991 (mandating status quo on religious structures as they were on 158 August, 1947, except for the Ayodhya site) indeed.
