{"id":235277,"date":"2024-02-22T01:43:40","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T20:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=235277"},"modified":"2024-02-22T01:43:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T20:13:40","slug":"india-greece-agree-to-soon-firm-up-migration-boost-anti-terror-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2024\/02\/22\/india-greece-agree-to-soon-firm-up-migration-boost-anti-terror-cooperation\/","title":{"rendered":"India, Greece agree to soon firm up migration &#038; mobility pact; boost anti-terror cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">New Delhi, 21 Feb: India and Greece on Wednesday agreed to work towards co-production and co-development of military hardware and decided to firm up a mobility and migration pact as soon as possible with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visiting Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis holding extensive talks to impart \u201cnew energy\u201d to the bilateral ties.<br \/>\nModi said the two sides have common concerns and priorities in the fight against terrorism and there was a discussion in detail on how to further strengthen cooperation in this area.<br \/>\nMitsotakis is on a two-day visit to India primarily to grace the Raisina Dialogue as the chief guest.<br \/>\nIn his media statement, Modi said he and Mitsotakis discussed many regional and international issues and it was agreed that all disputes and tensions should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.<br \/>\nIndia welcomes Greece\u2019s active participation and positive role in the Indo-Pacific and it is a matter of happiness that the European nation has decided to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, he said.<br \/>\nIndia-Greece relations were elevated to \u2018strategic partnership\u2019 during Modi\u2019s visit to Greece in August last year.<br \/>\nIn the talks, the two sides deliberated on increasing cooperation in many areas like pharma, medical devices, technology, innovation, skill development, agriculture and space.<br \/>\n\u201cOur discussions today were very meaningful and useful. It is a matter of happiness that we are rapidly moving towards the goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030. We identified several new opportunities to give new energy and direction to our cooperation,\u201d Modi said.<br \/>\nHe said the growing India-Greece cooperation in defence and security reflects the \u201cdeep mutual trust\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cWith the formation of a working group in this area, we will be able to increase mutual coordination on common challenges like defence, cyber security, counter-terrorism, maritime security,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cNew opportunities for co-production and co-development are being created in defense manufacturing in India, which can be beneficial for both the countries,\u201d the prime minister said.<br \/>\nHe said it was agreed to link the defence industries of both the countries.<br \/>\n\u201cToday we identified several new initiatives to give a modern form to these relations. We discussed concluding the migration and mobility partnership agreement between the two countries as soon as possible. This will further strengthen our people-to-people relations,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe pact would provide employment opportunities for Indians in Greece besides easing flow of students and business people between the two countries.<br \/>\n\u201cIn today\u2019s meeting we also discussed many regional and international issues. We agree that all disputes and tensions should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,\u201d Modi said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe welcome Greece\u2019s active participation and positive role in the Indo-Pacific. It is a matter of happiness that Greece has decided to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThere has also been a resolve for cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean region.<br \/>\nIn his remarks, Modi also referred to the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and said it would make a significant contribution to the development of humanity in the long run.<br \/>\n\u201cGreece can also become an important partner in this initiative. We agree to reform the UN and other global institutions, so that they can be made contemporary. India and Greece will continue their efforts to contribute to global peace and stability,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nLaunched in September, the IMEC is seen as an initiative by like-minded nations to gain strategic influence in the face of China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) that has faced increasing criticism over lack of transparency and disregard for sovereignty of the nations.<br \/>\nModi said both sides also discussed connecting the start-ups of the two countries.<br \/>\n\u201cShipping and connectivity are topics of high priority for both the countries. We also discussed increasing cooperation in these areas.\u201d Modi said that there are many possibilities for closer cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture as well. (PTI)<br \/>\nThe Greek prime minister\u2019s visit to India came around six months after Modi\u2019s trip to that country.<br \/>\n\u201cHis visit to India after my visit to Greece last year is a sign of the strengthening strategic partnership between the two countries,\u201d Modi said.<br \/>\nMitsotakis was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the fore-court of the Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of his talks with Modi.<br \/>\nIn the morning, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on the Greek prime minister.<br \/>\n\u201cDelighted to call on Prime Minister @kmitsotakis of Greece today. Valued his commitment to enhancing India-Greece ties. Look forward to the strengthening of our strategic partnership,\u201d Jaishankar posted on X.<br \/>\nThe Greek prime minister began his India visit this morning by paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
