{"id":236633,"date":"2024-03-10T00:18:01","date_gmt":"2024-03-09T18:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=236633"},"modified":"2024-03-10T00:18:01","modified_gmt":"2024-03-09T18:48:01","slug":"12-hour-bandh-in-eastern-nagaland-for-separate-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2024\/03\/10\/12-hour-bandh-in-eastern-nagaland-for-separate-state\/","title":{"rendered":"12-hour bandh in eastern Nagaland for separate state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">KOHIMA, 9 Mar: A 12-hour bandh was enforced in the six districts of eastern Nagaland on Friday, demanding a separate state.<br \/>\nThe bandh was enforced by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples&#8217; Organisation (ENPO) along with its tribal bodies and frontal organisations, demanding a separate state carved out with the six districts in the eastern part of the state.<br \/>\nThe organisations declared a &#8220;public emergency&#8221; on Tuesday, stating that it would not allow any political party to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls.<br \/>\nVehicles remained off the roads, markets were shut, and institutions and government offices were closed in Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak and Shamator districts.<br \/>\nThese districts are mainly inhabited by the Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam, Tikhir and Yimkhiung tribes.<br \/>\nDuring the bandh, which began at 6 am and continued till 6 pm, the districts wore a deserted look.<br \/>\nENPO vice president W Bendang Chang said that the bandh was a success and it passed off peacefully.<br \/>\nHe said that the ENPO has decided to continue the bandh on Saturday, as well.<br \/>\nHowever, the restrictions on movement of vehicles and opening of business establishments have been lifted, he added. (PTI)<br \/>\nThe ENPO said that no private vehicles will be allowed to carry out government duty and the functioning of government offices will be seriously dealt with.<br \/>\nThe ENPO has been demanding a separate state since 2010, claiming that the six districts have been neglected in all aspects for years.
