{"id":249229,"date":"2024-09-25T00:32:06","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T19:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=249229"},"modified":"2024-09-25T00:32:06","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T19:02:06","slug":"sc-directs-states-uts-to-notify-school-safety-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2024\/09\/25\/sc-directs-states-uts-to-notify-school-safety-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"SC directs states, UTs to notify school safety guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>NEW DELHI, 24 Sep:<\/strong> The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all states and Union Territories to notify the Centre&#8217;s guidelines on school safety and security.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh was hearing a plea of NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), seeking the implementation of the guidelines issued by the union education ministry in 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Senior advocate HS Phoolka, appearing for the NGO, said that till date only five states have notified the Centre&#8217;s 2021 &#8216;Guidelines on School Safety and Security&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Disposing of the 2019 PIL, the bench directed the chief secretaries of the states and the UTs to ensure compliance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The senior lawyer said that the plea attempted to depict the apprehension of parents who sent their wards to schools without any peace of mind regarding their safety.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The aim and objective behind the guidelines are to enact self-contained comprehensive legislation to provide for the protection of all children from all kinds of exploitation and abuse and guarantee their physical, social, psychological and moral wellbeing,&#8221; the plea said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The safety and security of every child studying in school is the avowed purpose and intent behind the guidelines; therefore, it is imperative that it should be implemented effectively and mandatorily within a defined timeline,&#8221; it added.
