SEIJOSA, 29 Jul:<\/strong> Stating that tigers are not just icons of the wild but indicators of a healthy ecosystem, Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve DFO Dhawan Kumar Rawat appealed to the community members to join the efforts for conservation of big cats.<\/p>\n Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the Global Tiger Day celebration here, the DFO said that the activities conducted during the celebration are a reminder to the people of the need to secure the future of the animal through joint efforts by the authority, people, and local communities.<\/p>\n “Conservation begins at home, in our communities, and in our schools,” he said, and added that “every creature has to share space in our little planet.”<\/p>\n The day was celebrated with three-day programmes in Seijosa, Tippi, and Rilloh wildlife ranges of the Pakke Tiger Reserve from 27 July, highlighting tiger conservation through youth engagement and community participation.<\/p>\n Key highlights of the celebration were campus clean-up, plantation drives, drawing and essay competitions at fringe schools, supported by the WWF India, and distribution of piglets for human-wildlife conflict mitigation.<\/p>\n In Tippi, a documentary on wildlife was also screened at the Nature Interpretation Centre, where Range Forest Officer Kime Rambia briefed about tigers and the need for their conservation.<\/p>\n Similar activities were also organized in the Rilloh range, involving the locals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" DFO calls for community participation in tiger conservation efforts SEIJOSA, 29 Jul: Stating that tigers are not just icons of the wild but indicators of a healthy ecosystem, Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve DFO Dhawan Kumar Rawat appealed to the community members to join the efforts for conservation of big cats.
