LIKABALI, 31 Jul:<\/strong> An awareness programme was organised at the Government Secondary School in Lipu here in Lower Siang district on Thursday as part of the 100-day awareness campaign against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which was launched on 26 June in the district by the Women & Child Development Department, in collaboration with the district administration.<\/p>\n The programme was aimed at raising awareness among the students and the teachers about the adverse effects of substance abuse, and to foster a drug-free lifestyle through the medium of education, community participation, and outreach activities.<\/p>\n On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Janes Mary Tayeng administered the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan pledge to the gathering. She appealed to the teachers and the students to “avoid drugs and addictions at any cost and make the society drug-free.”<\/p>\n Terming the human body a “holy temple,” she advised the students to keep their bodies tidy and holy throughout their lives by avoiding addictive substances like drugs, tobacco and alcohol.<\/p>\n Earlier, Child Development & Project Officer Jikom Doye highlighted the purpose the campaign and appealed to the students to help in shaping a drug-free and healthy nation.<\/p>\n District Surveillance Officer Dr Gobuk Doke, the legal probation officer, district child protection unit advocate Tagam Zirdo, APP Sub-Inspector Mankai Wangjen, and caretaker of local rehabilitation centre Sober Foundation, Tage Puning, were also present as resource persons.
