Editor,<\/strong><\/p>\n As a concerned citizen who follows pageant events closely, I often feel disappointed by the lack of visible social involvement from our state’s titleholders. So much is happening around us, and so much has happened in the past, yet we rarely hear any voice or opinion from our beauty pageant winners – both men and women.<\/p>\n During the competitions, contestants often declare that they will use their voice and position to serve society. We hear them speak passionately about ‘beauty with a purpose’ and their desire to be the ‘voice of the people’. But sadly, once the crown is placed, those words seem to fade away.<\/p>\n I understand that reigning winners may have certain obligations, but what about the former titleholders? They are free to speak, yet they too remain silent. Why shy away from expressing one’s thoughts or standing up for what is right? Are our beauty ambassadors meant only for promoting events, appearing in music videos, and showcasing glamour and fashion?<\/p>\n When someone earns such a title, they represent the spirit and identity of our state. With that honour comes responsibility – to inspire, to lead, and to raise awareness on issues that matter. If they cannot fulfil this promise, then it is better not to claim to be the ‘voice of society’ or say “I will advocate change.”<\/p>\n Our society needs young men and women who use their platforms meaningfully and speak up when it matters most.
