ITANAGAR, 2 Apr:<\/strong> In a major relief to farmers, the Centre has approved Arunachal Pradesh’ full requirement of 950 metric tonnes of urea for April, officials said on Thursday.<\/p>\n The decision came shortly after Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu raised the issue at a ministers’ conference chaired by union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday.<\/p>\n Earlier, only 100 MT had been allocated through the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), triggering concerns as the state had projected a total requirement of 950 MT, including a carry-over of 700 MT from March due to previous supply shortfalls.<\/p>\n During the conference, Wangsu highlighted that Arunachal, despite being among the country’s lowest fertiliser-consuming states, has\u00a0 frequently received less than its assessed urea requirement.<\/p>\n The minister underlined that the shortage comes at a crucial time as oil palm and tea cultivation are expanding rapidly in the state, increasing the demand for fertiliser inputs.<\/p>\n Any disruption in supply, he warned, could affect plantation schedules and impact farmers’ livelihoods during a critical phase of the agricultural calendar.<\/p>\n Expressing gratitude, Wangsu in a social media post on Thursday thanked Chouhan for the swift response and said the decision would ensure uninterrupted fertiliser availability during the peak cropping season and safeguard farmers’ interests.<\/p>\n Officials said necessary arrangements are being made to ensure smooth distribution of the allocated urea across the state ahead of the peak cropping period.
