Notably, the Commission has not made the Arunachal Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (APTET) certificate compulsory at the application stage. However, a section of previously qualified candidates has been advocating for its mandatory inclusion.

While such demands may appear to uphold academic standards, they overlook a crucial reality. During the previous APTET application cycle, final-year students were not permitted to apply. As a result, many deserving aspirants were denied the opportunity to obtain the certification-not due to a lack of merit, but because of an administrative restriction.

Imposing the APTET certificate as a compulsory requirement now would unfairly disadvantage these candidates. It would penalize them for circumstances beyond their control and restrict their access to the recruitment process. Public examinations must promote inclusivity and fairness, ensuring that every capable candidate is given a chance to compete.

Furthermore, the insistence on mandatory certification by some already qualified individuals risks being perceived as an attempt to limit competition rather than uphold genuine merit. A truly competitive system should encourage wider participation, allowing merit to emerge through performance, not through exclusionary conditions.

A balanced and equitable solution would be to allow all eligible aspirants to appear for the TGT examination, with the condition that successful candidates submit their APTET certificate within a stipulated timeframe. This approach safeguards both fairness and standards without compromising either.

In conclusion, recruitment policies must reflect justice, inclusivity, and equal opportunity. It is hoped that the authorities will continue to uphold these principles and ensure that merit prevails over unnecessary restriction.

Aspirant

Editor, The ongoing discussion regarding the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) recruitment under the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has raised important concerns about fairness and equal opportunity.
