The raid, conducted following reliable information, resulted in the rescue of four female sex workers and the detention of the resort manager, customers, and the resort owner for further inquiry.

Police officials stated that complaints regarding sex work at the resort had been received earlier, although evidence could not be established during previous attempts. The latest operation reportedly caught those involved red-handed. According to the police, the women involved had been brought from the Tinsukia area of Assam, while most of the customers were locals, repeating the pattern that has been seen across the state.

The case has also raised questions regarding the functioning of hospitality establishments without proper documentation or licences. Reports indicate that the resort had been operational for only a few months and was allegedly running illegally. Police further stated that the accused woman suspected of operating the racket has a history linked to sex work-related activities. These throw up a lot of questions as to how someone with a record was allowed to operate from a resort.

The police have appealed for greater cooperation between the community and law enforcement agencies, stressing the importance of timely information-sharing in tackling illegal operations. Such activities warn about associated dangers, including drug addiction and the spread of diseases.

Hospitality establishments such as resorts, lodges and hotels often become vulnerable to misuse when monitoring mechanisms are weak and owners fail to maintain proper oversight of activities taking place within their premises. In many cases, illegal operations flourish under the cover of regular business activity, making timely inspection and verification essential. The authorities should ensure stricter compliance with licencing norms and to hold owners and management accountable for unlawful activities taking place in their establishments.

The recent busting of a sex racket operating from a resort in Meka by the Lower Dibang Valley district police has brought attention to illegal activities being carried out once again in the state.
