\nMIREM, Jun 14:<\/strong> Altogether 120 free LPG connections were distributed to below poverty line (BPL) women beneficiaries under the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana (Expanded) by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Ltd in a function held at the community hall in Mirem village in East Siang district on Thursday.
\nDeclaring Mirem the first “smokeless village” in East Siang, Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak in his address said the Centre’s scheme of providing free LPG connections would help mothers save their valuable time and maintain family hygiene.
\nHe urged the IOC and its authorized agent to expedite the process of providing free LPG connections among the BPL beneficiaries in the district.
\nIOC area manager M Hussain informed that more than 1,216 free LPG connections under the PMUY have been distributed in the district so far, and assured to clear the pending applications.
\nThe IOC has so far distributed more than 10,000 free LPC connections in seven districts, including East Siang, under the scheme which was launched in the state on 11 June, 2017.
\nFormer minister Tangor Tapak said he is committed to provide free LPG connection to every BPL family under his gas agency’s jurisdiction. He also assured to expand the service to all educational institutions in the next few weeks.
\nMirem village leader Tabir Tatan (Eko) appealed to the district administration and IOC officials to make their village smokeless in the true sense by ensuring cent percent LPG connection.
\nEast Siang district BJP president Tamat Jonnom and senior public leader Tamat Gamoh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated the flagship scheme to ease the suffering of the poor women.
