{"id":35841,"date":"2018-07-10T01:27:56","date_gmt":"2018-07-09T19:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=35841"},"modified":"2018-07-10T01:27:56","modified_gmt":"2018-07-09T19:57:56","slug":"complaint-lodged-over-police-brutality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2018\/07\/10\/complaint-lodged-over-police-brutality\/","title":{"rendered":"Complaint lodged over police brutality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ITANAGAR, Jul 9:<\/strong> The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the North East Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Organization (NHRC) against alleged police brutality involving the merciless beating of a 25-year-old by Assam Police at the Shantipur police outpost in Tinsukia district of Assam.<br \/>\nThe NEHRO unit informed the NHRC that on 6 June, a group of miscreants forcibly dragged one Josuha Ngupok (of Kangkong village in Lower Dibang Valley district) to the police outpost, where Assam Police personnel beat and tortured him, inflicting grievous injuries. It said the miscreants had also beaten up Ngupok before dragging him to the police outpost.<br \/>\nNgupok was later admitted in a hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam, for treatment.<br \/>\nAs per the medical report, the NEHRO said, the victim has lost his cervical lordosis and is still in trauma.<br \/>\n&#8220;The act committed by police is inhumane and a serious violation of human rights,&#8221; the NEHRO unit said, seeking the NHRC&#8217;s intervention in the matter.<br \/>\nStating that the Tinsukia SP has not taken any action against the erring police personnel despite several requests, the NEHRO unit requested the NHRO to direct the Assam DGP to take appropriate action against the police personnel for abusing their power and assaulting the victim.<br \/>\nIt also appealed to the commission to direct the Assam DGP to take appropriate action against the SP for failing to take lawful action against the irresponsible personnel of the Shantipur police outpost.<br \/>\nThe victim is a student pursuing Bachelor&#8217;s degree in social work at the Himalayan University, Itanagar.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, based on a complaint lodged by a family member of the victim, a case has been registered under Section 341\/324\/325\/34 IPC at the Sadiya police station against the alleged accused, including four personnel of the Shantipur police outpost.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ITANAGAR, Jul 9: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the North East Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Organization (NHRC) against alleged police brutality involving the merciless beating of a 25-year-old by Assam Police at the Shantipur police outpost in Tinsukia district of Assam.
