ITANAGAR, Aug 3:<\/strong> The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has urged the state government to extend cooperation and logistic support to the union’s proposed ‘Operation Clean Drive’ against illegal migrants in the state.
\n“‘Operation Clean Drive’ will be launched across the state from 17 August onwards, which would include checking of ILPs (inner line permit) and deportation of people staying in Arunachal without valid ILP,” the union informed, adding that its apprehension is that there might be large-scale influx of illegal migrants after the publication of the final NRC draft in Assam.
\n“As the final draft of the NRC for Assam has been published, there is an apprehension of large-scale influx of illegal migrants who have not made it to the final list in the NRC,” the AAPSU stated in a representation to the chief secretary, informing the government about the drive.
\nIt also said people from outside have been entering the state without proper ILP for the last several years, “which has become a threat to law and order situation.”
\nOn 31 July, members of the AAPSU’s ILP Committee, led by Tatung Taga as chairman, had caught eight persons involved in making fake ILPs red-handed in Banderdewa and handed them over to the police.
\nThe AAPSU appealed to the non-APSTs who are staying in the state without ILP or other valid documents to either immediately get ILPs or leave the state on or before 16 August.
\nIt also requested the chief secretary to apprise the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police about the union’s proposed drive, and to strengthen manpower at all the check gates and entry points.
\nMeanwhile, an AAPSU team led by its president Hawa Bagang and general secretary Tobom Dai on Friday embarked on a four-day tour of West Kameng and Tawang district to take stock of the ground realities of the Tibetan refugee issue there.
\nThe AAPSU will hold talks with indigenous organizations, community-based student organizations, the district students’ union, and other stakeholders of the two districts on the refugee issue, informed AAPSU deputy spokesman Nepha Wangsa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
