Itanagar, Oct 8:<\/strong> The agriculture department launched the Chief Minister’s Sashakt Kisan Yojana (CMSKY) and the Chief Minister’s Krishi Samuh Yojana (CMKSY) at Banquet Hall here on Monday.
\nAimed at doubling the farmers’ income by 2022, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two schemes were announced by the state’s finance minister during his budget (2018-19) speech, reports DIPR.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Agriculture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai said the state government is trying its best
\nto facilitate the farmers in raising their income. He said the two schemes are “some of the few initiatives of the government to improve the economic status of the farmers who are solely dependent on agricultural activities.”
\nThe government is also encouraging farmers to adopt scientific methods and integrated farming practices, Dr Chai said.
\nEmpowering the farmers through a cooperative approach, institutionalizing farmers’ organizations, encouraging good agriculture practices, providing marketing interventions for better price realization, etc, are a few objectives to ensure enhancement of farm income, he added.
\nTalking about new approaches to boost the agriculture sector, the minister said his department is working on the concept of “agro-tourism” in order to provide “financial backing to the farmers and to the state.”
\nA book on the CMSKY, and the agriculture department’s web portal were also launched by the minister during the function.
\nAgriculture Secretary Mimum Tayeng highlighted the CMSKY and the CMKSY. The CMSKY will subsume three state flagship programmes – CM’s Employment Generation Scheme, CM’s Agri-Mechanization Programme, and CM’s Flagship Programme on Tea and Rubber.
\n“The CMKSY aims at empowering the farmers by providing timely support and marketing interventions for better price realization and doubling farmers’ income,” Tayeng said.
