{"id":61111,"date":"2019-02-28T17:05:41","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T11:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=61111"},"modified":"2019-02-28T17:05:41","modified_gmt":"2019-02-28T11:35:41","slug":"conservation-group-visits-varsity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2019\/02\/28\/conservation-group-visits-varsity\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservation group visits varsity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>AALO, Feb 27:<\/strong> Members of the Environment Conservation Group (ESG), who are on a 100-day &#8216;Great Indian bird expedition&#8217;, participated in a &#8216;presentation-cum-awareness programme&#8217; at the North East Frontier Technical University (NEFTU) here in West Siang district on Wednesday.<br \/>\nThe ECG team, comprising National Geographic educator R Mohammad Saleem, former SACON director Dr PA Azeez, Dr Salim Ali from Coimbatore-based Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, physician Dr Ravi Rishi, and wildlife photographer Thillai Makadhan, reached here after covering 45 days of their expedition. The last visit they made was to the Eaglenest sanctuary in West Kameng district.<br \/>\nThe awareness programme, on the topic of migratory birds in the region and the need for protecting and conserving the endangered species, was attended by the university&#8217;s students and faculty members.<br \/>\nSaleem spoke on the people&#8217;s dependence on nature, and said &#8220;we have to conserve nature to preserve human civilization.&#8221; Dr Azeez spoke on &#8220;the free ecosystem services done by birds, such as preying upon the rodents, and safeguarding our granaries in turn.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe programme concluded with an interactive session, and the ECG team was felicitated by NEFTU vice chancellor Dr Tejum Padu.<br \/>\nThe team will visit other parts of the state during its tour, before moving on to Nagaland, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and other parts of the country.
