{"id":62683,"date":"2019-03-20T01:32:24","date_gmt":"2019-03-19T20:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=62683"},"modified":"2019-03-20T01:32:24","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T20:02:24","slug":"6-ulfa-i-militants-surrender-in-assam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2019\/03\/20\/6-ulfa-i-militants-surrender-in-assam\/","title":{"rendered":"6 ULFA (I) militants surrender in Assam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>TINSUKIA, Mar 19:<\/strong> Six hardcore ULFA (I) militants surrendered in Tinsukia district of Assam, following a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and the Assam Police on Monday.<br \/>\nA huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from them during the operation, informed Kohima-based Defence PRO, Col C Konwer, in a release.<br \/>\nThe operation was conducted after getting information that some ULFA militants were hiding in the Tarani reserve forest area after having crossed the Indo-Myanmar border.<br \/>\n&#8220;They were cornered in the reserve forest area, and their families and friends were contacted by the security forces to motivate them to surrender. Ultimately, they surrendered,&#8221; the release said.<br \/>\nThe militants have been identified as self-styled sergeant Barun Asom, LCs Saurav Asom, Utpal Asom, Bosonto Asom and Ninja Asom, and private Sekhar Jyoti Asom.<br \/>\n&#8220;They were seeking to carry out some specific activities in upper Assam during the elections,&#8221; Col Konwer informed.<br \/>\nThe security personnel recovered three AK-81 rifles, two HK-33 rifles, one AK-56 rifle and 17 magazines from the militants.<br \/>\nBesides, 617 rounds of ammunition and a hand grenade were also seized from the militants, the release said.
