{"id":65257,"date":"2019-04-23T00:47:47","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T19:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=65257"},"modified":"2019-04-23T00:47:47","modified_gmt":"2019-04-22T19:17:47","slug":"world-earth-day-celebrated-across-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2019\/04\/23\/world-earth-day-celebrated-across-state\/","title":{"rendered":"World Earth Day celebrated across state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ITANAGAR, Apr 22:<\/strong> World Earth Day was celebrated in various parts of the state on Monday with a series of programmes to create awareness on environmental issues and ecological preservation.<br \/>\nIn Doimukh, the BEd 4th semester students and faculty members of RGU&#8217;s education department celebrated the day with a procession and skits in the university campus and at Nirjuli market.<br \/>\nThe students displayed placards containing messages on ways to save the environment, and raised slogans on the importance of flora and fauna to maintain ecological balance.<br \/>\nThe skits focused on how deforestation, pollution and illegal poaching by human beings are causing massive environmental degradation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-65267 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/World-Earth-Day-celebrated-across-state-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" \/>The students also planted saplings on the department&#8217;s premises.<br \/>\nRGU&#8217;s Education Department Head Prof E Hangsing, Prof J Shahoo and Dr Vivek Singh spoke on sustainable development and the importance of public awareness in promoting environmental sustainability.<br \/>\nIn Itanagar, the NCC cadets of Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College, led by ANO Lt Palvinder Singh, took out a rally to promote environmental awareness by sensitizing people to their role in addressing global environmental challenges.<br \/>\nThe cadets also participated in a seminar and a tree plantation drive, besides cleaning the college&#8217;s campus.<br \/>\nThe day was also celebrated by NCC cadets of NIT Yupia and JNC Pasighat with similar programmes.<br \/>\nIn West Siang district, the NCC unit of the government college in Bomdila celebrated the day with the theme &#8216;Protect our species&#8217;.<br \/>\nThe event also featured an aerobic session in the college premises, conducted by fitness instructor Rai of Yen Fitness Club. A short video titled Earth Day 1970-2017: What&#8217;s changed? was also screened on the occasion.<br \/>\nThe cadets of the 1 AP NCC all across the state celebrated Earth Day by taking the pledge to plant trees and assist in waste management by reducing, reusing and recycling, under the guidance of Commanding Officer Col RK Sharma and Administrative Officer Maj Shikha Yadav.<br \/>\nIn Nagaon in Assam, about 500 NCC cadets marked the occasion by pledging their commitment to protect the earth and the environment.<br \/>\nSpeaking on the occasion, the 8 Assam Battalion NCC&#8217;s Commanding Officer Col Vinay Malhotra exhorted the cadets to be actively involved in protection of the environment, and to educate the people around them on the importance of the same.<br \/>\nA slogan writing competition was organised, besides tree plantation and a massive procession in Nagaon city to reach out to the public with the appeal to reduce pollution, recycle, reuse and reduce waste, and save water and natural resources.
