{"id":75928,"date":"2019-08-17T02:27:03","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T20:57:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/?p=75928"},"modified":"2019-08-17T02:27:03","modified_gmt":"2019-08-16T20:57:03","slug":"five-new-fish-species-discovered-from-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/index.php\/2019\/08\/17\/five-new-fish-species-discovered-from-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Five new fish species discovered from state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<strong>ITANAGAR, Aug 16:<\/strong> Five more species of fish were discovered from Arunachal Pradesh by a fisheries and aquatic ecology research team led by Prof DN Das from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) recently.<br \/>\nThe discovery and descriptions of the fish species have been published in various journals of international repute, according to a release from RGU\u2019s zoology department.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Five-new-fish-species-discovered-from-state.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75951 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/arunachaltimes.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Five-new-fish-species-discovered-from-state.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"630\" \/><\/a>The newly discovered species include the Mystus prabini (discovered in Sinkin and the Dibang rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district); the Exostoma kottelati (discovered in the Ranga river in Lower Subansiri district); the Creteuchiloglanis tawangensis (discovered in the Tawangchu river in Tawang district); the Garra ranganensis (discovered in the Ranga river); and the Physoschistura harkishorei (discovered in the Dibang and the Lohit rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district).<br \/>\nProf Das said the majority of remote water bodies in the state are still not easily accessible to researchers \u201cdue to dense rainforests, steep terrains and communication problem.\u201d<br \/>\nHe, however, said the re-<br \/>\nsearch team is optimistic that meticulous exploration work may result in more discoveries of new ichthyo species from the state in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Five more species of fish were discovered from Arunachal Pradesh by a fisheries and aquatic ecology research team led by Prof DN Das from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) recently.
