BASAR, 12 May: Twenty-five-year-old Bombe, alias Bombay Riba has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 20 years and to pay a fine of Rs 3,000 for the rape of a six-year-old girl.
POCSO Court Special Judge Tage Halley passed a judgment on 6 May sentencing Riba to rigorous imprisonment under section 376(3) IPC, read with section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
These legal punishments come after a charge sheet was filed against Riba and after he pleaded guilty before the court on 5 May.
Earlier, on 30 April, 2020, the father of the victim had lodged a written FIR that that his six-year-old daughter was forcefully kidnapped from his home by the convict, and after taking the minor victim to the nearby river, he had raped her.
On receiving the FIR, the officer-in-charge of the Basar police station registered the instant case Under Section 363/376 IPC read with Section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012 and investigation was launched.
During investigation, it was found that the accused and the minor victim were neighbours in the same village, and thus, knew each other well.
After completion of investigation, the investigating officer filed his charge sheet against Riba under POCSO Act, 2012 which was directly forwarded to the special court, Basar by the superintendent of police for taking cognizance and trial.
Accordingly, a formal charge was framed against the accused on 5 May, 2021 and substance of the charge was read over and explained to the accused in the language he understands, to which he pleaded guilty.
As per submission made by the Public Prosecutor, K Angu, an application was submitted under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011 through the district legal services authority of West Siang.
The application for payment of compensation to the victim of sexual assault in this case and for her rehabilitation has been approved by the concerned authority, which is the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority. (DIPRO)
