VIJAYNAGAR, 4 Apr: A high-level official team led by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein visited remote Vijaynagar in Changlang district and took stock of the ongoing developmental projects.
Addressing a public meeting on Sunday, Mein said that the 157-km-long Miao-Vijaynagar road will become motorable by 25 April, while the blacktopping of the road will be completed by the end of September this year.
RWD SE Tanu Tamin informed that “85 percent of the total length of the road has already been completed and the remaining work will be completed within the given deadline.”
Mein said that the road construction work “made remarkable progress after an initial delay due to realignment of the road, as it was passing through a wildlife sanctuary.”
He advocated handing over the road to the Border Roads Organisation after its completion for maintenance.
Speaking about electricity requirements, the DCM said that, once developed, the 4×250 kw Dehing MHS (Vijaynagar), the 2×250 kw Sirit MHP (Preetnagar) and the standalone 2×25 kw Preet MHS (Mazgaon) will meet the power requirements of the entire Vijaynagar area.
He said that the Preet MHS has already been sanctioned by the government. He, however, said that “the feasibility of the 1 mw hydroelectric project at Vijaynagar will be properly studied by experts, so that it does not collapse after completion.”
Mein assured to provide fund for a multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of 300, a new EAC office complex and officers’ quarters in Vijaynagar, fund for repair and maintenance of the Vijaynagar police station, a vehicle for the CO, and an ambulance for the PHC here.
He also said that government-run bus services to and from Vijaynagar will be started once the construction of the road is completed.
Mein said that he will discuss with the SBI’s regional office regarding opening a bank branch here.
Stating that 4G mobile towers will be installed in different locations in Vijaynagar circle under the USOP scheme, Mein said that the initiative for providing 4G mobile services by a mobile services provider in Vijaynagar circle has already been taken up by the district administration.
The DCM further said that he will soon submit estimates for construction of internal roads in Vijaynagar and a hostel building for the government secondary school here.
Lauding the hardworking people of the area, Mein said: “The large cultivation of cardamom on the hills and paddy fields along the patches of plain areas and valleys is testimony to their hard labour.”
PHE&WS Minister Wangki Lowang, UD&H Minister Kamlung Mosang, RWD Minister Honchun Ngandam, Changlang DC Devansh Yadav, Miao ADC Sunny K Singh, Vijaynagar EAC AJ Lungphi and local public leaders also spoke.
During his interaction with the public of Gandhigram, Mein assured them of providing fund “for the construction of a multipurpose hall, along with a generator, and a guesthouse.”
He said that the demand for creation of Dawodi CD block and creation of the Yobin welfare board will be taken up in the state cabinet.
Highlighting the various budget initiatives, he advised the people to avail the benefits of government schemes like the ANKY, the ANBY and new schemes like Atmanirbhar Plantation Crops, Atmanirbhar Pashu Palan, Atmanirbhar Matshya Palan, etc.
During his three-day visit, Mein also interacted with the personnel of the 19th Assam Rifles, the SIB, the SB and the Indian Air Force.
Later, the DCM and his entourage visited Twohut, Buddha Mandir and Mazgaon, inhabited by ex-servicemen. He said that these villages will be connected with a “PMGSY cluster road” up to Buddha Mandir after the completion of the Miao-Vijaynagar road. (DCM’s PR Cell)
