NAHARLAGUN, 7 Sep: AP Queerstation, in association with Deja Brew, conducted a session for the transgender men community on issues related to their health, rights and other matters, here on Wednesday.
Trans men and non-binary trans persons from districts like Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, West Siang, West Kameng and Papum Pare, as well as members of AP Queerstation Yuma Narah (she/her) and Jimmy Sonam (he/him) attended the programme, according to a release from AP Queerstation.
“Talks ranged from life before transitions, during the time of undergoing hormonal treatment and surgery, and post challenges and adjustments in life. Various information on official websites, professional healthcare contacts, the dos and don’ts, and the rights and laws to safeguard oneself were all shared by the primary source. Other sensitive issues on family, educational system and other social institutions that the majority of the trans people are still struggling with and finding hard to talk openly about were also covered,” the release said.
“The event was ‘trans exclusive’ only, to maintain a safe space, especially with regard to confidentiality,” the release added.
Queer activist Sawang Wangchha (he/him) advised the young trans people to “become economically self-reliant by prioritising education.”
He said more such talks will be conducted with each group of the community, besides community events, meetups and sensitisation programmes.
