Recently, a picture of two electric poles still standing on a newly laid cement concrete (CC) road in RWD Colony in Itanagar was widely shared on social media. It sparked a meme fest on social media, and people had fun at the expense of the construction agency. The picture is a glaring example of how agencies do not cooperate with each other while executing infrastructure projects in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR). There are many other such instances where lack of coordination between various departments has hampered the implementation of infrastructure projects.
In this case, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, which executed the CC road project, did not properly coordinate with the power department, due to which the poles were not shifted on time. Even in the construction of the Itanagar- Banderdewa four-lane highway project, there is a lack of coordination between the the PWD (highway), the power, and the PHE departments. In many stretches, electric poles and water pipelines have not been shifted, although the construction of the highway is going on. There is a need for improved coordination among various work agencies in the ICR. Before starting any project, the agency executing the project should keep all other departments informed. Better coordination will help in smooth execution of projects.
