Arunachali kickboxer to represent India at world c’ship

ITANAGAR, 18 Nov: Tana Tagi Tara from Arunachal Pradesh will represent India at the Wako World Senior Kickboxing Championship, being held in Albufeira, Portugal, from 17 to 26 November.

He has been selected based on his gold medal-winning performance in the Wako India Seniors and Masters National Kickboxing Championship, held in Jalandhar, Punjab, earlier this year, Kickboxing Association of Arunachal (KAA) general secretary Charu Govin informed.

He further informed that the athlete has already arrived in Portugal to compete in the championship.

Prior to his departure, Tara had attended an international kickboxing training camp conducted by the Wako India National Kickboxing Federation in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, from 19 to 28 September.

The KAA general secretary said that “the world championship is considered next to Olympic Games.”

Tara won two consecutive national championships gold medals from 2022 to 2023, and a bronze medal in the Asian Kickboxing Championship, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2022, Govin said.
