BASAR, 20 Nov: NGO Gumin Rego Kilaju here in Leparada district is celebrating ‘Iqin Festival’ (festival of tapioca, sweet potato, yam, etc) as part of the International Year of Millets at a resort 2 kms from here.
The festival, themed ‘Back to the roots’, was declared open on Sunday.
“The motto behind this festival is to encourage and revive the age-old culture of organic farming. It is also a local initiative to enhance and boost the local economy of the farmers, especially the marginal farmers of the local area,” the organiser informed in a release.
“This platform strives to promote the ‘vocal for local’ ethos in true spirit and hopes to carve a path towards self-reliance for the local community of the area by giving prominence to marginal farmers for their relentless grit and perseverance in keeping alive the age-old culture of organic farming,” it said.
