The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) being undertaken by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday reached Itanagar capital region. While addressing people Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of “dividing the country in the name of caste, creed and religion.” He alleged that the BJP “instigates people to fight among themselves in the name of religion and language.” Surprisingly the yatra witnessed a large turnout. People thronged roads and venues where Mr Gandhi addressed crowds to listen to him. It is too early to predict whether the yatra will have any impact on Congress party’s fortune in the coming state assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
But there is no denying that BJNY has woken up Congress supporters and their leaders in the state from deep slumber. All of a sudden large numbers of supporters turn out in huge numbers to welcome their leader. The yatra has definitely energized them. Also it brought some amount of interest in the grand-old-party among the public.
With absolute majority and being power centre at Delhi, the BJP has literally decimated Congress in Arunachal Pradesh. Once the Congress was a dominant party in the state. In recent years its cadres and leaders have left the party and joined BJP. The BJNY and presence of Mr Gandhi in the state will definitely lift the morale of party supporters at the grassroot.
