Editor,
I am writing to draw attention to a matter of grave concern affecting the communities near the clock tower in Itanagar and the stadium area in Naharlagun. It is with a heavy heart that I report the emergence of these locations as commercial spots for sex work, creating an unsettling and pitiful condition in areas that were once peaceful.
Having spent my childhood in Itanagar, it is disheartening to witness such a drastic and alarming change in the landscape of our hometown. The situation has become particularly distressing during the late hours, from midnight to the wee hours, where open business activities related to sex work are taking place.
This alarming development not only tarnishes the image of these areas but also poses serious public health risks. If not addressed promptly by the authorities concerned, there is a significant risk of Itanagar becoming a breeding ground for HIV/AIDS due to the nature of such activities.
I implore the local authorities to take immediate and decisive action to curb this rising issue. Increased vigilance, law enforcement presence, and community engagement are crucial in bringing about a positive change and restoring the safety and wellbeing of our neighborhoods.
I urge our community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and concerned citizens to collaborate in finding effective solutions to address this pressing issue. It is imperative that we work together to ensure the restoration of the sanctity of these areas and protect the health and safety of our fellow residents.
