ITANAGAR, 8 Jan: The Itanagar police have so far arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the vandalization of the Genesis Watch Store at Akashdeep. Of the six individuals, two have been identified as Shiva Sonam Liyak (29) from Lower Liyak village, East Kameng district, and Tado Techi Tara (23) from Lumta village under Pakke-Kessang.

In a press release, Capital Complex Itanagar superintendent of police Rohit Rajbir Singh informed that a complaint had been received from one Takam Tanio, the owner of Genesis Watch Store located at Akashdeep Complex, regarding an incident that occurred on Tuesday.

According to the complaint, All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) president Lezen Gyadi, along with three others, entered the shop and attempted to forcibly take two watches without making any payment. Tanio intervened and managed to ensure that Gyadi paid for one watch, which he subsequently took before leaving, the SP added.

Later that evening, at around 4:00 pm, a group of 10-15 unidentified individuals, some of whom were reportedly masked, forcibly entered the shop in the absence of the owner. The group assaulted the shop staff, vandalized the store and caused significant property damage, estimated to be worth several lakhs. They also forcibly took two DVRs containing CCTV footage and abducted two staff members, the SP informed.

The abducted staff members were later taken to the residence of ANSU president Gyadi, where they were unlawfully confined. Upon learning of police intervention, the abductors released the staff members and fled the scene, the SP said.

The Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) also raised concerns about potential violence and threats to the Akashdeep Complex and its members, allegedly by individuals claiming affiliation with ANSU under Gyadi. This representation has been merged with the ongoing investigation, the SP stated.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Itanagar PS Case No. 05/2025 for offenses under Sections 61, 117(2), 138, 238, 310(2), 329(1) and 351(2) of the BNS, 2023. The investigation is being actively pursued by Itanagar police station.

The SP added that, with the assistance of one remaining DVR, suspects are being identified, and efforts are underway to arrest the individuals involved in the incident.
