Groundnut seeds distributed, farmers trained

KARSINGSA, 17 Jul: A total of 4,120 kgs of groundnut seeds were distributed to 126 farmers of Papum Pare district during a training programme on groundnut cultivation organized by the Papum Pare Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at its campus here on Wednesday.

Participants, mostly women farmers, from SHGs under the Papum Pare ArSRLM and the ArSRLM BMMs in Balijan, Kimin, Doimukh, Sagalee and Borum attended the programme.

KVK agronomist Tadang Meena imparted training on the cultivation technique of groundnut. She highlighted the health benefits of groundnut, seed treatment, sowing method, and harvesting technique of groundnut in detail.

KVK farm manager Dr Nabam Gama encouraged the farmers to visit the KVK to get advanced technical know-how on agriculture and allied subjects.

Addressing the participants, District Agriculture Officer Maze Piel urged the farmers and farmwomen to adopt scientific cultivation techniques and focus on commercial cultivation to profit from the ventures.

Borum BMM Tapo Nalo expressed gratitude to the KVK for arranging such farmers-oriented programme for the SHGs and individual farmers, and gave assurance with regard to monitoring of the fieldsduring the cultivation period of groundnut.

Balijan BMM Monu Kamsar also spoke.
